Managing expatriates and international assignment costs
Ivana Gibson and Zoltan Rosenfeld
As organizations identify strategies to manage the increasing globalization of their business and address local talent shortages in emerging markets, expatriates have become key to successfully launching operations in new countries. As the number and type of expatriates are increasing, the philosophies, management and administration of expatriate programs are becoming more complex. Companies are seeking ways to decrease program costs and to reclassify global mobility solutions as a strategic tool, focusing on investment, not just on cost.

In this session, we will discuss three areas where companies must focus their attention in order to make a successful transition into the modern environment of global mobility:
  • Redefining global mobility
  • Understanding the challenges of implementing a successful global mobility program
  • Potential ways to incorporate global mobility as a corporate strategy driver

A case study outlining the mobility challenges faced by a major multilatina will also be presented as part of this session.

Compensation in Latin America and the Caribbean: A perspective for the coming year
Adriana Manuitt and Eduardo Nasi
In this session, we will present a detailed overview of the compensation trends identified from the results of the Mercer Total Remuneration Survey covering Central America, South America and the Caribbean, but with a focus on countries facing specific challenges from a compensation perspective.

We will compare different countries in the region and contrast the region’s results against trends published in Mercer’s global surveys. Material presented in each of the country workshops will be included in this presentation; however, this session is designed for those delegates who would like to have an overview of the key compensation issues and trends across the whole region.

Building a global culture of health: How effective wellness programs can reduce your company’s health care costs
Paula Barnes and Alexandre Espinosa
As health care costs continue to climb, employers are looking for innovative ways to promote wellness programs and help employees become better health care consumers. Building a culture of health within an organization presents both opportunities and challenges but has been proven to reduce the cost of providing health benefits to employees.

In this session, we will discuss these opportunities and challenges, making specific reference to a case study of a major multinational operating in the region that has developed and implemented a wellness program for its workforce.
