Ms Mandeep Maitra
Country Head - Human Resources, Infrastructure, Administration and Corporate Social Responsibility, HDFC Bank
Ms. Mandeep Maitra is Country Head – Human Resources, Infrastructure, Administration and Corporate Social Responsibility at HDFC Bank. She is the only woman to have broken the glass ceiling in the bank in reaching this level and is known to be the architect of the Human Resource function at HDFC Bank.
Ms. Maitra comes with more than 20 years of experience, 16 of which are in banking alone. In fact she was recognized as the youngest Head of HR in the Indian Banking Industry. She has had the distinction of managing two mergers - a successful merger in 1999-2000 of HDFC Bank with Times Bank and more recently (May 2008) the largest merger amongst Private Sector Banks in India – HDFC Bank with Centurion Bank of Punjab. She has successfully orchestrated the people, cultural and infrastructural aspects as part of the integration process in these mergers.
Under Ms. Maitra's leadership, the bank has grown from around 1,300 employees to over 58,000 in less than ten years. Moreover, two subsidiary companies and two affiliate companies of the bank also report into her on all strategic people issues.
Under her leadership, the bank has had several achievements and won many awards including some received by her in her personal capacity. As Country Head – HR she steered HDFC Bank in the list of Top 10 companies of "The Best Companies to Work for in India" (rated by BT Mercer Survey 2005) in just five years.
Ms. Maitra takes an active part and contributes to contemporary issues in banking by being part of many prestigious forums like the HR Chiefs Roundtable (set up by Reserve Bank of India, the Central Bank), speaker at forums of Indian Institute of Bankers (IIB), part of the Advisory Board at the National HRD Network (NHRD) and a Core Advisory member of the Asia Pacific HR Congress and World HRD Congress, India.
