Beryl Cook
Chief Human Resources Officer and Executive Vice President, News Corp.
Beryl Cook studied journalism and media in Australia, then started her working life as a journalist for 12 years in Australian newspapers. She moved to Fiji, after the military coups, where she worked as a trainer at the Fiji Times newspaper, and was Deputy Editor of a magazine covering the South Pacific. She also lectured part time for a brief period at the University of the South Pacific.
In 1992 she moved to Hong Kong, where she worked as Training manager for the South China Morning Post setting up journalism traineeships in the lead up to the handover to China. She moved into the television industry as Head of Training and Development, then Senior Vice President for Human Resources, for Star Television working in China, India, Hong Kong and the Middle East. She also worked in Australia as Group Head of Human Resources for News Limited.
She moved to BSkyB as Group Director for People and Organisational Development in April 2004. She was responsible for a national team of Human Resource professionals providing strategic leadership on people, culture and change initiatives.
Beryl moved to New York to take up a newly created position as global Chief Human Resources Officer for News Corporation in August last year and is responsible for HR worldwide with a particular focus on talent management.
