Mercer’s 2015 EMEA Compensation and Benefits Conference, hosted in Vienna on 8-9 October by Chris Johnson, Mercer’s Europe Talent business Leader, welcomed 131 leading strategic-level HR professionals from 29 countries to focus on this year’s theme Make Tomorrow, Today: Innovation and Insight.
Why this theme and why now?
The world is going through profound disruptive change that is profoundly impacting our lives and workplace. Our conference themes have always linked compensation & benefits to the immediate or anticipated economic and business context to understand the challenges and opportunities for the society, our countries and organisations, and for all of us as HR professionals.
How do we navigate this world?
In today’s world, the solutions for tomorrow may not be clear, but the means of finding the right solutions have to be clear, as our ability to innovate and to have insights about labour markets and our workforces are vital For all of us.
Over the two days of the conference, the Innovation and Insight theme ran through the plenary sessions, breakouts and networking discussions. The aim was to stimulate new thinking and ensure participants would leave more informed and confident about the future than when they arrived in Vienna.
Our keynote speaker on the conference’s first day, Anne Lise Kjaer, a renowned Scandinavian entrepreneur, futurist, and visionary thinker exposed her “Postcards from the Future: Tomorrow's Global Citizens and Purpose-driven Leadership” On the second day, Tom Chatfield, broadcaster, technology theorist and writer shared his views on “The digital disruption (and its discontents): what skills do we most need for thriving in a digital age?”
The conference programme presented a combination of panel discussions, workshop sessions and a series of case studies from client companies such as Google, Mars, VISA Europe, BAT, Médecins sans Frontières, Nestlé and Borealis. Pertinent compensation and benefits insights have been shared and exposed the delegates to practical solutions that they could apply in their organisation.
The Gala dinner was organised on the first night of the conference at the stunning Palace Ferstel, which provided an enhanced networking experience for participants.
