Juan Ignacio Apoita, BBVA
Juan Ignacio is the Human Resources and Services Chief Manager at BBVA, one of the leading finance businesses in the world, with more than 104.000 employees in more than 32 countries in which BBVA has established around 7.500 branches. He is a member of BBVA’s Board of Directors. In his present role, Juan Ignacio has contributed to HR structures building and developing these in order to achieve a business culture at global level and at the same time take specifications of local process into consideration.
Before Juan Ignacio became head of HR, he spent 20 years with BBVA in its business units, mainly in the wholesale banking division. He had the opportunity to work abroad for several years (Venezuela, 1997; France, 2001), which helped him to develop an appreciation for customs and working practices outside of Spain. He also believes strongly in employee engagement and employer branding as well as training and development.
Juan Ignacio has a law degree from the University of Deusto and a European integration studies degree from the University of Amsterdam, and he has participated in the General Management Program at IESE (Barcelona).
